Motivation

So where does it come from...I was talking about this with my mom the other day...I seem to have trouble motivating my son to do things. In general he is good, but what he does he does because I make him, not because he wants to.... She said she had the same problem with me as a child. I wanted to do, what I wanted to do...and that was that.
